Breast Cancer Put My Career on Hold, but TERRA Helped Me Rejoin the Workforce

Eshawn Edgecombe had to step away from the workforce for some time – but not by choice. She’d been battling breast cancer for several years.

“It got bad enough that I just had to stop working for a while,” she shared.

But Eshawn is a fighter and a survivor.

When she felt well enough to return to work, a friend referred her to TERRA Staffing Group.

She had her doubts about staffing firms, having worked with them previously. Though they often found her work, it was never the right fit. She decided to give TERRA a try anyway, and reached out to the Tukwila office.

“I was nervous,” Eshawn said. “I was hoping I could still get a job after not working for some years due to breast cancer.”

But the Tukwila team saw beyond the gap in employment. They could see that Eshawn was eager to get to work and they felt confident that she would do well on any assignment.

Eshawn was also incredibly flexible, open to temporary assignments and jobs in Tacoma as well. This allowed TERRA’s Tacoma office to jump in and help her find work.

Together, the Tukwila and Tacoma teams were able to help keep Eshawn steadily employed.

Not long after, the Tacoma office had a temp-to-hire opportunity come in. Liliana Zamudio, Staffing Specialist, thought Eshawn would be a great fit for the role – working as a gardener.

Lili was right.

Eshawn loved the role. “I love being outside and working in this type of environment,” she said.

The client was incredibly happy with the work that Eshawn was doing. They brought her on as a full-time, regular employee!

We couldn’t be more pleased about the way things have worked out for Eshawn. She has proven to be an amazing employee and an incredible human being. Someone who can do anything that she sets out to do.
