TERRA Helped Make My Transition to a New Career (and Country!) Easy

Carlos Vergara has a degree in Business Administration, which he used in various industries like finance and marketing.

When he received an opportunity to move to the United States to be closer to his wife’s family, he was initially elated.

But then he started thinking about what obstacles he may face in the transition.

You see, Carlos was living in Mexico City, and his wife’s family was living in Oregon.

He assumed there may be some difficulty finding work.

Carlos wanted to do everything possible to make his transition a smooth one. So, he contacted a local staffing agency in Mexico for help – and they referred him to TERRA!

Once Carlos and his family were settled in Oregon, it was time for Carlos to find work. Thanks to the information he received back in Mexico about TERRA, Carlos called the local Clackamas branch to set up an interview.

Staffing Specialist Zady Blaize conducted the interview and loved his positive attitude. She thought Carlos was friendly, very open to learning new skills and was eager to start working.

She was staffing for a large food production manufacturer and thought he’d be a great fit.

“Carlos said he was comfortable in a production environment and enjoyed the work that they offered. He was excited to start work in a new industry,” Zady said.

She offered him a temp-to-hire position in packaging for a leading all-natural, organic snack manufacturer.

After starting work, Carlos was asked to transition to a different shift time, and he agreed. His willingness to be flexible in order to meet the client’s needs really stood out to the supervisors.

And we have some great news to share. Carlos received a promotion to an operator position and also got a raise!

We asked Carlos what he liked about his new manufacturing role. He said, “I feel comfortable around my coworkers, safe in my work environment, and I get help quickly if I need it.”

If you’re eager to start a new career, Carlos offered this advice:

“Be consistent. Pay attention during training and be open to learning more every day. No matter what, keep trying and don’t give up. In the end, make sure you find a job where you are comfortable.”
