I Took a Risk and Went After the Career I Wanted – I Couldn’t Be Happier

Some people love taking risks. They love the thrill of the unknown.

But is the reward worth the risk? It can be.

Bosset Garcia worked for one of the largest international hotel chains for over four years, as an Operations Supervisor. It was a great company to work for, but he wanted a change. He craved a role that was more administrative and less physical.

He knew that wanting something different required him to take a risk. If he left his job, would he even find what he was looking for? That thought terrified him.

But he also knew that he wouldn’t see the results he wanted if he didn’t make a change.

While searching for jobs online, a TERRA  job posting caught his eye and he decided to apply. The following day, Lynn Ford,  Mesa Recruiter, called and scheduled an interview with Bosset.

“He was a ball of energy with the biggest smile. You could see the excitement on his face. He was so grateful to have TERRA help him with this next step in his life,” Lynn said.

She thought he had great experience. He also had glowing referrals from his past employer.

Since he was such a qualified candidate, Lynn offered him a customer service position right away.

But Bosset didn’t feel like it was right for him, so he turned it down.

He didn’t take a risk to not get what he wanted. So he explained to Lynn that he preferred a position in an office setting. He wanted a job he could grow in.

Instead, with his administrative goal in mind, he took some time to hone his computer skills.

About two months later, Lynn called Bosset about a different opportunity. This position seemed to be exactly what he was looking for – an administrative role with some physicality.

He decided to take a risk and he couldn’t be happier.

Bosset feels like his current job is a perfect match.

“There are so many rewards with my new position. Holidays and weekends off, a set schedule which allows me to get off early, better pay and benefits, and monthly bonuses just for doing my job,” he beamed.

Bosset wants to grow with this company and plans to retire here, which undoubtedly must make his employer happy to know.

He impresses them every day with his positive outlook, and they love his drive to succeed.

His supervisor said, “Bosset has been a joy to work with. He has always had great communication, and has referred multiple candidates to us. We knew he would be a great fit for the team.”

Bosset had this advice for job seekers:

“Don’t be afraid, if you want something new. Just go ahead – take the risk! Being scared will just hold you back. Do what you want in your career.”
