Having the Right Job Has Made a Huge Impact on My Life

The hours may be consistent, and the work may be comfortable, but that doesn’t always mean that the job you’re in is the right job for you.

Kahlil Blocker worked for over 13 years as a service technician for audiometric medical equipment.

He spent more than half of his year traveling to various states in the Northwest, installing, repairing or calibrating machines in medical facilities.

Thought Kahlil wasn’t looking for a new position, he would have loved to spend more time at home. The nature of the job, the number of employees he needed to support and all of the traveling was wearing on him.

Meanwhile, Technical South Division Manager Tabitha Delaire was searching for a candidate for a niche position.

Her client was looking to hire someone with a unique skill set. They wanted someone with technical and mechanical experience, but also customer service experience.

In doing some research, Tabitha came across Kahlil’s resume. She saw that Kahlil was currently in a very technical, customer facing role and thought he’d be perfect for the position.

She decided to reach out in hopes that he would be interested in the opportunity.

And Kahlil was.

Tabitha arranged an interview for him and the client and things couldn’t have gone smoother.

Kahlil received a job offer, and was delighted to accept it! He is now Mobile Bottling Project Manager. (And if you’re wondering what that means –  Kahlil drives mobile equipment to wineries to bottle, package and label wines. What a cool job!)

He loves that he’s no longer on the road. Work is only 15 minutes from his house and he is home considerably more often – almost 90 percent of the time! He loves the people he works with, that there’s lots of great training, and the pay and benefits are nice, too!

Fun fact: typically, new employees train for 6 months to a year, until they can work independently. But after just three months, the company paid for Kahlil to attend CDL school so that he can work on his own.

And we have even better news to share. After talking to Kahlil, he let us know he passed his CDL driver test this week so he no longer needs a supervisor!

Kahlil wanted to make sure he thanked Tabitha for all of her efforts.

He said, “Tabitha has been amazing. She checked in often, concerned that I got the right job and not just a job. She wanted to make sure it was the right fit!”

We asked Kahlil what advice he had for people looking to make a change in their career. Here’s what he had to say:

“Don’t give up. Keep looking and don’t be afraid to get assistance. But in the end, make sure it’s what you want. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard ‘be happy you have a job.’ But I can’t tell you what a difference it makes to have the right job.”

Congratulations on all you’ve accomplished Kahlil! We wish you continued growth and success! Thanks for trusting TERRA to help find the right job for you.
