TERRA Kept Me Working Right Up to My Due Date…and Beyond!

Cressa is all smiles at her new job.

With baby number four on the way, Cressa Johnson found herself being unexpectedly laid off.

She wasn’t sure what she was going to do – and then she discovered that TERRA’s Everett office was looking for someone to temporarily cover its front desk while their office coordinator was out on, curiously enough, maternity leave.

She met with Everett Recruiter, Patty Stoddard and was soon hired on to fill this short-term position for the Everett office.

Just as the Everett office coordinator was about to return, Patty found Cressa another short-term assignment with a company that needed help with a big HR project that would last about 4 – 6 weeks. The client stressed that they needed someone who could place an emphasis on accuracy and was great at data entry. Cressa was an obvious choice to Patty, who knew firsthand how hard Cressa worked and how she was the “Queen of Data Entry.” The client agreed to give her a chance.

And boy are they glad they did! They ended up loving her so much, that they kept her working till about one week before her due date! Not only that,
they knew that they wanted to make her a regular employee, so they held a job for her!

Now, Cressa is back at work and doing more than HR projects; she is learning accounting, too!

Cressa was kind enough to share her thoughts on her experience working with TERRA.

First tell us a little bit about you and your background.

I am a proud mother of four. The day after I found out I was pregnant with my 4th child, I was laid off unexpectedly and was out of work for four months before I found TERRA. I have worked full time since I was 16, so being out of work was an odd experience for me. You see, I am very family oriented and want to provide my children (and myself and husband) with every opportunity to experience life to its fullest!

How did you hear about TERRA?

Alishia Bissell, family friend and TERRA staff member, posted on Facebook about a job opportunity at TERRA’s Everett location and I applied for that position.

How did your experience with TERRA compare to what you expected or experienced from other staffing firms?

My experience with TERRA was awesome. They never stopped supporting my efforts to remain employed. Once the position at TERRA was finished, all of the recruiters continually looked for a position that was not only a good fit for me, but that would accommodate my being several months pregnant. No other agency, or any company, would consider hiring me as far along as I was and TERRA was able to keep me employed up until I had my baby!

Is there anyone specifically at TERRA you would like to thank?

I would like to thank Alishia Bissell for posting the position and personally getting my resume to the recruiters. She opened the door for me.

I would also like to thank Patty Stoddard. She made me comfortable in the initial interview so I was able to express who I was and how I would fit in at TERRA. That enabled Patty to find a great fit for me, that started as a temp job but ended up becoming full-time, regular employment.

Patty praised my skills so much that that I didn’t even need to interview before they hired me for the project, and then I didn’t need an interview for the position they held for me until after I came back from maternity leave.

Thank you both so much. It means the world to me and my family. We are now able to move forward with our goal of putting our children in the sport of their choice (gymnastics and Taekwondo), and start on the goal of buying a house for our family. This happened largely because of you two, and the support you gave me.

What else would you like us to know?

I recommend TERRA to any hard worker that needs a great fitting job turned career!

Thank you, Cressa, for taking the time to share your story with us, and for allowing us to be a part of your success!
