TERRA Provided Relief After I Lost My Job – They Helped Me Land A Role I Love

Melinda Wicks had worked for the same company for over 20 years. Sadly, she was laid off and found herself having to find a new job.

The job search process felt daunting to her.

She attended hiring events and searched online for jobs.  And though she had a variety of skills under her belt, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do.

A job opening through TERRA’s Tukwila office caught her eye. She scheduled an interview and met with Recruiter, Amanda Roberts.

Amanda liked Melinda immediately.  Not only did she have great skills, she was friendly and eager to get back to work.

The best part was that Melinda was open to a variety of assignments. Amanda knew that this would allow her and the rest of the Tukwila team to better help Melinda. They could help keep her steadily employed until the right fit came along.

The Tukwila team was able to place Melinda on several different assignments. And Melinda loved it. She saw every assignment as an opportunity to learn something new.  “I worked in a cold storage warehouse and liked it. At another temp job I learned how to use some machinery.  All positions taught me something,” she shared.

Stephanie Launius, Tukwila Recruiter, placed Melinda on a temporary assignment that was only meant to last one month. But the client wound up liking her so much that they decided to keep her! She’s now their full-time regular employee!

Stephanie shared, “The client thinks Melinda is a great fit. She’s got great attendance, a go-getter attitude and a pleasant demeanor. She is always quick to help and willing to give anything a try.”

And we are so glad to share that Melinda loves her job. “Everyone is really nice. I am really happy to see them every day. I like that I can help where I can. I like that I can learn more.”

Melinda is learning a lot at work. “My manager asked me to help with tracking, which I was able to learn. One day, he said, ‘Come with me’ and took me to the back. He wanted me to learn how to do returns and repairs, and I did. It demystified computers for me. And now I am training new people on how to do this.”

Regarding her experience working with TERRA, she said, “When I came to TERRA, I was lost. I had no clue which way to go, or what I could do. Being able to talk to someone, to them, was…” she paused, searching for the right word. “It was such a relief.”

“Losing my job was awful – traumatic. Things were a huge struggle,” Melinda confessed. “But it’s actually the best thing that happened to me. I am happier than ever. And I am starting to hope again.”
