My New Job Is a Great Fit – I Am Not Starting Over

Gwendolyn Johnson was an experienced business management professional. She and her husband ran their own business for many years and, during that time, she was responsible for variety of office, administration and light accounting duties.

She loved the learning opportunities that came with the job.

Unfortunately, due to an unexpected turn of events, Gwen and her husband found themselves without a business to run…and in need of new jobs.

“I was open to anything, but really wanted a permanent job. I was looking to stay in either office or dispatch work, and I love working with numbers. Ideally I wanted a job that would allow me to use the skills I already had, one that would allow me to learn and grow those skills. I didn’t want to have to keep starting over.”

She added, “I also didn’t want to work for a corporation. I wanted to work somewhere that offered a family-feel.”

But finding a new job was easier said than done.

Gwen said, “Searching for a job was completely new to me. Every job I’d had previously had been through someone I knew.”

One day, she found a job online through TERRA Staffing Group, a top temp agency in Tukwila.

Having never worked with a staffing firm before, Gwen was not sure what to expect.

“Did it cost money? I didn’t want to have to pay for a job,” she said.

She was friendly, outgoing and had a can-do attitude – and a good sense of humor. I knew they would appreciate her.”

He was right. The client really liked Gwen and brought her on as a full-time, regular employee!

“They thought she brought a diverse background to the table,” said Lance. “She also had a desire to learn AND she learned quickly. Her personality was a perfect fit for their small office team.”

Gwen is happy with her new job. “I love the atmosphere and the people I work with. And the work I do has an impact. The owners are also down-to-earth. It feels like I am part of a family.”

Regarding her experience with TERRA, she said, “Going from interviewer to interviewee was completely different for me. I knew what to expect as interviewer, not the other way around. But Lance was easy to talk to and made the process very clear to me. He kept in communication with me and it was always easy for me to understand what was going on.”

Gwen had this advice for job seekers:

“The process of looking for a new job was very daunting for me. I realized that I was not good at asking for what I wanted. If you are looking for work, know what you want to do…what you are willing and not willing to do.

Think about the atmosphere or environment you want to work in – and share that with your recruiter. They are there to help.”
