Bronwyn Allen came to TERRA in October of 2014 looking for a “encore career opportunity”–one that would maximize her experience and provide her the opportunity to make a difference in the world.

She met with Seattle Recruiter, Emily Kaplan. They talked in length about Bronwyn’s experience and goals.  Emily was determined to help Bronwyn find the right fit.

That right fit didn’t happen overnight, but after a month and a half, Emily reached out to Bronwyn with a potential job opportunity that she thought was the perfect match.

Bronwyn went in for an interview – and the rest is history.

We are so happy that Bronwyn is now in a job she loves, doing what she loves. But why hear it from us? Read on to hear it directly from Bronwyn herself!

First, tell us a little bit about you and your background.

My name is Bronwyn Allen. I grew up in Texas and moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. I’m now a UW graduate with a degree in Norwegian Language & Literature and Scandinavian Area Studies (my “fun” degree) and a degree in Business Administration (my “practical” degree).

After a successful 20+ year career in the IT sector, I decided I needed a change and took a break from the corporate world – it was my version of a mid-life crisis.

During my sabbatical in 2014, I realized I wanted to do something that would feed my heart and soul. I’m most fulfilled when I’m directly connected to a leader in need of senior support to get the job done. My coworkers, friends and family know me as a “happen-maker” – able to make things happen, often in challenging circumstances.

I enjoy coordinating the team and tasks vital to keeping an executive going each day, and I excel as a “right-hand-man” or “chief of staff”.

So for my encore career I decided to seek a senior executive administrator position to apply my experience in a meaningful environment, working for an organization doing good in the world. With the help of TERRA, I landed a position in Seattle with a great organization as the Executive Administrator, Office of the President, working with the President/CEO and his executive team.

How did you hear about TERRA? 

I did a Google search for Staffing/Recruiting agencies and learned of TERRA.

How did your experience with TERRA compare to what you expected or experienced from other staffing firms?

My experience with TERRA was very positive and compared favorably with other staffing firms. A different staffing firm would not even agree to meet with me, claiming they would not be able to keep me busy or find a suitable client. I’m grateful TERRA was willing to look deeper into me as a person and not make incorrect assumptions about my interests, skills, and aspirations.

Is there anyone specifically at TERRA you would like to thank?

Yes. Emily Kaplan. Emily was open to learning about me during our first meeting, asking probing questions and listening to my answers. She understood what I was looking for and what I brought to the table. She championed me from the beginning and was creative in her search for a suitable position for me. She was proactive in following up with one potential client, who indeed was looking for someone like me – me! Emily and I stayed in touch throughout the process – she often reached out to me without me prompting her, and she was available for me any time I had questions. She was a pleasure to work with – I felt supported and like I was a valued and valuable partner throughout my job search. I’m thankful I was paired with Emily as my recruiter.

What else would you like us to know?

Since I was hired in my new position, Emily has stayed in touch with me, checking in to make sure it’s the right fit for me and the organization.
