Getting the best and brightest to accept positions within your organization matters, and so does keeping them.  Keeping the star players you have and attracting new talent are key to the growth and success of any business.  Here are some tips for recruiting and retaining top talent.

1.  Identify your star talent and their needs.

The first step to keeping your top players is knowing who they are and what it will take to keep them happy.  Identify those who are most valuable to the business and find out what they want and need. Consider offering a mix of traditional perks, like salary and insurance, and nontraditional perks, like flex time or other perks that have value for your top performers.

2. Take the lead in recognizing employee achievement.

Being proactive in identifying and recognizing the achievements of all employees is key to retaining both your top talent and those who want to be your top talent.  Recognition creates a sense of appreciation, meaningfulness, and teamwork, which are key to employee retention.  Meeting your employees’ needs and recognizing their successes keep employees happy, which improves their productivity and willingness to stick with your organization in the long term.

3. Tap into your top performers’ networks.

Many great employees network with like-minded people. Your top performers can offer a great source for new talent that would be a great addition to your team.

4. Talk to your recruiter.

Your staffing company can help you create retention and recruiting strategies designed to keep your star talent in place and add top-quality new additions to your team. Your recruiter can also identify top players in your field who may be unhappy in their current positions and would welcome the chance to join your organization, putting their top talent to work for you.
