Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at TERRA Staffing Group

Our business was founded on a simple premise that we would become successful by helping other become successful.  Since we opened our doors in 1983, we have connected thousands upon thousands of individuals with employment and while we are proud of that we know that HOW we fulfill our mission of “Success Stories Created Daily” matters. Here are some of the ways that we are embedding DEI values into our company:

Giving Talent a Voice

We believe that in order for individuals to have agency, they must also be given a voice. We have partnered with ClearlyRated, a third-party survey provider to regularly survey the individuals we have placed in jobs.  This monthly survey includes questions about fair and equitable treatment and gives individuals an opportunity to identify areas or issues that need to be addressed.  This is all tracked in a dashboard.  Ensuring talent satisfaction is a key measure of our success.

Ongoing Training

All employees who are involved in making hiring or placement decisions are fully trained in applicable laws regarding fair practices in recruitment, selection and employee management.  But we go beyond basic legal compliance and have developed training to address implicit and unconscious bias.  We have a value of “screening in” versus “screening out” and evaluating job candidates for what they can do and can be trained to do.  Earning advanced HR certifications is a requirement to advancing and earning promotions as a placement professional in our company.

Speaking Up for Inclusion

We have an opportunity through our monthly webinar series and widely-read blog to share information with employers about to advance diversity, equity and inclusion.  For decades we have been sharing information and advocating for inclusive hiring practices as well as fair and equitable treatment for all.

Client Selection

As a staffing agency, we know that we are known by the company we keep—more specifically, by the clients we serve.  We will not accept any job order or search assignment with requirements that are in violation of equal opportunity in law or in spirit.  We will discontinue doing business with companies who show a disregard for the well-being, dignity or rights of individuals.  I am as proud of the companies we have walked away from as I am the companies with whom we choose to do business.

Intentional Giving

We commit to sharing our profits with the communities we serve.  We specifically have targeted charitable organizations who are committed to creating success stories for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations as well as organizations who are removing barriers to employment for individuals with disabilities or those involved in the criminal justice system. In June of 2020, I was pleased to join other CEO’s from across the country in signing the CEO Pledge.  This pledge was promoted by CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ an organization who aims to rally the business community to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

The CEO pledge outlines a specific set of actions the signatory CEOs will take to cultivate a trusting environment where all ideas are welcomed, and employees feel comfortable and empowered to have discussions about diversity and inclusion.  The pledge is new, but our commitment to these efforts is not and I look forward to continuing to work together toward a workplace that is more fair, more equitable and more inclusive for all.

All the best,

Greg Lambert
CEO

Great partnership.
