Change Can Be Challenging – But I Embrace It and Use It to Fuel My Career

People often fear change. But not Daworn Hen. She embraces it.

She understands that sometimes it can result in adventure and unexpectedly rewarding experiences. That’s why she left her home country of Cambodia and moved to the United States.

Daworn worked hard and ultimately built a happy life for herself in Washington state. She was content with her daily routine. She was comfortable in her electronic assembly job.

Everything was going great.

Then, a friend in Oregon tried to convince her to move there. She was unsure if she wanted to make another big change.

“Where would I work? Where would I live? Would I like the change?” Questions were reeling in her mind.

Knowing that stable employment was a priority, Daworn’s friend told her that her employer was hiring, and that they hire exclusively through TERRA Staffing Group. And TERRA  conveniently has offices in Washington, Oregon and Arizona, that all work together to help people find placements.

Daworn could interview in Washington and potentially land a job in Oregon, if she was willing to make the move.

After going back and forth, Daworn decided there was no harm in interviewing with TERRA. She scheduled an interview the following day with TERRA’s Everett office.

After the interview, Laila Hosseini, Clackamas Recruiter, was informed by the Everett team that Daworn was interested in learning more about employment with her client.

Since Daworn now had a profile created in TERRA’s database, Laila was quickly able to review her resume. She reached out to Daworn immediately, thinking the job was a great match.

After their conversation, Daworn agreed to drive down to Oregon and interview for the job.

“I thought Daworn would be a great fit because of her five years of assembly work. She also had soldering experience, which is a really hard skill to find. The client also looks for outgoing people with great attitudes and Daworn fits that to the ‘T.’ After talking with her, I knew for sure that she would be a great culture fit,” Laila said.

The client felt the same way. Daworn was offered a soldering job almost immediately after her interview!

Feeling confident and supported, she decided to take a leap and make the change. She accepted the new position and moved to Oregon.

Laila called Daworn at the end of her first week to see how things were going. Daworn told Laila the truth. She confessed that while she liked her coworkers and the environment, she was having trouble sitting all day in her new soldering role.

Daworn was nervous. She knew that honesty was always important, but was her honesty going to cause her to lose this job?

Just the opposite. Laila was very understanding and helped her make another change, for the better.

Instead of losing her job, Laila found Daworn a new position. Still with the same company, just in a different department. And this new assembly role was a great fit.

Daworn shared her thoughts on her experience working with TERRA:

“TERRA made things so easy for me. They were always checking in with me – you can tell they care about their employees. If you’re open-minded, you can find work quickly. They provide you with options and have great communication, which helps a lot.”

We’d love to say that Daworn is still on the job and loving it, but we have to share that there’s been another change.

Daworn has decided to return home to Cambodia. The decision was difficult. She enjoyed her life in Oregon and was finding success in her new role. She just wanted to be closer to family.

Even though Daworn is no longer working with TERRA, we still consider her a great success story.

Most people shy away from change. They’d rather be comfortable than challenge themselves. But Daworn is proof of how much you can learn and experience when you are willing to try new things and push yourself outside of your comfort zone.

We know that wherever she goes, she will continue to be successful.
