Is the inability to find top talent keeping you up at night? You’re not alone.
Hiring managers around the country are feeling the pain of “talent shortage.”
Jenifer Lambert, CPC and partner in TERRA Staffing Group, shared some great advice for HR professionals in charge of talent acquisition in February’s HR HotSpot: Winning the Talent Acquisition Game: Trends, Tools, Tactics for 2018.
Here are 5 key takeaways:
Employers that are not talent-centric are going to lose.
The reality is that it’s a candidate’s world. They have increasing opportunities available to them. If you aren’t willing to embrace this idea and put the candidate first, you are not going to win the war for talent.
If you win over the millennials, you win.
They are driving the workforce in terms of numbers, and are driving expectations. If you can meet their expectations, you will be able to meet the expectations of the greater workforce. Why? Because what they want isn’t really all that different from what the rest of your workforce wants – they’re just willing to ask for it!
Job postings are the currency of the realm.
Job postings are not only the most effective way to attract candidates, they are effective marketing material. Know what you are really selling. Find a way to brand the opportunity and best position your company.
Be mindful of your online reputation.
It’s never been easier to access information about a company (and its employees). And the truth is that people make a decision about a company before they actually ever make contact with the organization. LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed, Yelp, Google, your company website – they’ve seen it all. Make sure you are cultivating a reputation/brand that is desirable and that shows that you can help employees build their careers.
Consider non-traditional talent pools.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when hiring. Be open to rehiring former employees that added value to your organization. Look at existing employees to see who might be ready for a new opportunity. Consider hiring people who are differently-abled.
