Chris Piers has a background that includes project management, marketing, and some graphic design. But his passion lies in marketing.
Most recently, he was working as a HR Marketing Manager for a large healthcare organization.
Unfortunately, when his employer was forced to downsize, his role ended up being eliminated.
Finding himself unexpectedly unemployed, he decided to do an online search for staffing firms in Tacoma and discovered TERRA.
He arranged for an interview at TERRA’s Tacoma office and met with Recruiter, Mandy Garcia.
“Chris was able to articulate his former job duties very well and was also open about his needs,” Mandy said, ” He also has an extensive marketing background – his resume seriously screams marketing!”
Before sitting down to talk with him, she prepared a list of jobs she thought would be a good fit, based off his resume and marketing experience.
Mandy had a Marketing Manager position that she was working on for one of her larger clients. She thought Chris would be great for the role – especially after talking with him and learning more about his skills and experience.
“Chris had several years of experience and knowledge in marketing and technical writing – exactly what the client was looking for!” she said.
Mandy quickly arranged an interview for Chris, and the client really liked him.
But they were also finding and interviewing candidates on their own and didn’t want to make a decision right away.
Nevertheless, they kept coming back to Chris. Not just because of his great skills and experience, but because he just “fit” with their team.
They knew Chris was the right person for the role and offered him the job.
Here’s the best part: Mandy was able to negotiate on Chris’ behalf and turned what was meant to be a contract-to-hire opportunity into a direct placement!
Chris is happy in his new role, “I enjoy the fast-paced nature and the nice variety. The days fly by and I get to work on all sorts of projects, with a pretty big team.”
Chris was also pleased with the smooth onboarding process and was very happy working with Mandy. He said, “I’d like to thank Mandy. She came to my interview prepared with jobs. He said, “Keep working on your skills when you have time. Take classes. Do testing. And don’t overlook a staffing firm. They have relationships with companies and can connect you with jobs that you wouldn’t get on your own. Jobs that aren’t on other job site aggregators.”
