I Needed a Job That Fit My Family’s Schedule and Found One I Love

Miguel Cortina is a true family man. He was willing to be in a job he didn’t love because it was the right fit for his family.

You see, Miguel’s wife is in school and has classes during the day. Someone needs to be home at that time in order to take care of their young daughter. That’s why Miguel was only able to do night shift work.

For a while, he had a job working for a window manufacturing company. While it fit his schedule well, it wasn’t really enjoyable. It was starting to get to him.

“I was working too many hours and the job itself wasn’t that exciting. It was really repetitive. I would just count down the hours until it was time to go home,” Miguel confessed.

He decided that it was time to find something new. Something that worked with his schedule – and that he liked.

He started his job search and began looking into resources he could utilize. Staffing agencies did cross his mind, but he’d worked with one in the past and didn’t have the best experience.

“They were pretty bad,” Miguel said with a groan. “There were a lot of issues and the jobs just weren’t that great.”

He was hesitant to work with one again. But a coworker recommended that he try TERRA Staffing Group and he decided to give it a shot. He connected with the Phoenix branch office and went in for an interview.

It was a completely different experience this time.

“As soon as I stepped through the door you could tell that everyone, from the receptionist to the recruiters, wanted to help and wanted what’s best for me. They actually sat down with me to see what I do and don’t like. They got to know me and wanted to help me find something I’d enjoy!” Miguel exclaimed.

It wasn’t long before he was starting at a manufacturing company as a machine operator.

Miguel did very well in this role and things were going great. But a few months into the job, the employer needed to switch his schedule. Unfortunately, this didn’t work for Miguel and his family.

Once again, he found himself looking for work. He connected with Phoenix Staffing Manager Carly Erickson, who helped him find a new role.

Carly stated, “Miguel is hardworking, dependable and has a great attitude. I could tell he was someone who didn’t mind putting in the work, and he’s just a genuinely nice guy.”

She arranged an interview for Miguel at another manufacturing company and made sure to set him up for success.

“Carly helped me prepare for the interview and let me know what kinds of questions to be ready for,” Miguel explained.

It went really well.

“The manager seemed to like everything I had to say,” he recalled. “I could tell it was definitely a company I wanted to work with.”

Needless to say, Miguel was offered the job. And four months later, he still loves it!

“The schedule works perfect for me and I really enjoy the work I’m doing,” he said. “Even my wife has noticed that I come home happy every day instead of dreading having to go back to work.”

Not only is Miguel coming home from work noticeably happier, this job has helped improve many aspects of his family’s life.

“This company is just great. I wanted a new job for the longest time and this position is exactly what I needed. I’ve met some great people and have job security and great benefits,” he beamed.

His supervisors are happy, too. If they could clone him, they probably would!

Carly shared, “Whenever the company needs new employees, they always ask me for ‘another Miguel’ because he’s so hardworking and reliable.”

“Have an open mind about everything. Don’t be afraid to accept something new that you have no experience in. If it’s not for you, you can always try something else.”
