Entering the job market fresh out of high school is both exhilarating and nerve-racking. With so many career decisions to make it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
This wasn’t the case for Andrew Keller, however.
Unlike a lot of first-time job seekers, he knew what he wanted and had a clear career path in mind: to find work in a cleanroom manufacturing environment.
While knowing what he wanted made his employment search easier, Andrew was still nervous about entering a new field. He had no previous experience to guide him and was unsure what to expect when applying to jobs.
Despite his anxiety, and thanks to his determination and eagerness to learn, Andrew quickly found a job in his chosen industry. And for a few months, everything was going great.
But things are never that simple. After only a short time in his new role, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and Andrew lost his job.
Of course, he was upset by this turn of events. But he didn’t lose sight of what he wanted. Andrew saw this misfortune as an opportunity to get another, even better job in which he could grow and learn new skills.
During his second round looking for work, he connected with TERRA’s Phoenix team. In no time, they placed him in a cleanroom production role with a local company.
Unfortunately, the job wound up not being a good long-term fit.
This time, Andrew was really disappointed.
But he wasn’t alone in his job search anymore. Because TERRA offices work together to help job seekers find employment, he could contact, and be contacted by, recruiters from any branch.
And that’s exactly what happened. When Scottsdale Recruiter, Cierra Ward, began recruiting for a Cleanroom Machine Operator, she quickly reached out to Andrew!
She was instantly struck by his enthusiasm and eagerness to gain new expertise.
“Andrew was looking to find a home with a great company. A job that would allow him to continue to gain new skills.”
Certain that he would fit for the role well, Ciera arranged an interview for Andrew. And while he was a little nervous, knowing that Ciera was in his corner was a relief.
“Ciera made me very comfortable,” Andrew confided. “She was so nice, very honest and supported me with everything.
She really made the process less stressful. Ciera would tell me not to worry and helped me through it.”
Although Andrew was anxious about interviewing for this position, he did not need to be! He made a great impression — and was offered a job right away!
He has no shortage of good things to say about his new role.
“It’s been great. I love everything about this job! It pays well and the commute is easy. There’s never a dull moment! I just know every day is going to be different. I do so much and it’s never the same thing twice.
Plus I’ve learned a lot so far. I’m getting all the opportunities to gain the skills I want.
And with Ciera helping me out so much, it’s been a wonderful couple of months!”
Not only is Andrew enthusiastic about his new job, his employers are just as excited about him. They appreciate his hardworking energy and love that he is reliable and always tries his best!
And since they’re so happy with him, they have now hired him as a permanent employee!
Here’s Andrew’s advice to people looking to start their careers in a new industry.
“Entering a new field is going to be scary and stressful, but you will have people to help you! Trust yourself and trust them to help guide you. And above all, keep an open-mind!”
We’re thrilled we could help you jump-start your career, Andrew! There’s no doubt that this new job is perfect for you!
