TERRA Helped Me Turn a Temp Job into a “Real” Job!

People have a tendency to dismiss temporary work, saying that they want a “real” job.

Well, not only are temporary positions “real”, they are great for many reasons. (An obvious reason being that doing temporary work is better than not working at all.)

Temporary work allows you to “test-drive” different industries and is a great way to gain experience and add to your skill set. Temporary work also enables you to build your professional network and develop professional relationships, including stronger relationships with your recruiters.

Doing temporary assignments allows you to show your recruiters what you can do and keeps you top of mind when other opportunities arise – possible long-term opportunities.

That’s right. Your temporary assignment could be your ticket to a full-time job!

Donna Mugford’s story is proof of that. She used temporary assignments to shine and find the right, long-term fit.

Donna was a contracts clerk for a manufacturing company for eight years before being laid off.

An online search brought her to TERRA’s Tacoma office and she met with Recruiting Coordinator, Teresa McGowen. Teresa thought her industrial  and office experience was great, but there were no long-term opportunities that were a match for Donna’s skills at the time of her interview.

But Donna was not opposed to temporary work. Quite the contrary. She was open to everything, except reception. And her administrative and manufacturing background made her a fit for multiple positions.

She immediately became the Tacoma office’s go-to-person for temporary assignments. She proved to be reliable and an excellent employee.

And when a long-term opportunity came around, one that required an administrative and manufacturing background, Tabitha Delaire, Tacoma Recruiter, knew just who to call.

Now, Donna is doing a job she loves and that utilizes her inventory, purchasing, administrative, and customer service skills and she couldn’t be happier.

We asked Donna to share her thoughts on her experience with TERRA.

How did you hear about TERRA?
I searched online for a staffing agency and chose TERRA.

How did your experience with TERRA compare to what you expected or experienced from other staffing firms?
TERRA made me feel like a real person, not just a paycheck for them. Agencies in the past have made me feel as though I was just another number. TERRA appreciated and respected my likes and dislikes. They sent me to jobs they felt were suited for me. My assignments were not pulled out of a hat.

Is there anyone specifically at TERRA you would like to thank?
I feel that my success was a TERRA team effort. They were all looking out for me and all wanted the best for me. Tabitha connected me with not just a job, but with an organization I am proud to be a part of. It’s a perfect fit for me. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better situation. I am still pinching myself.
