TERRA Helped Me Transition Into Civilian Life

There is no question that the dangers and difficulties our military personnel  face are daunting, but as tough as life in the military can be, the transition from active military to civilian life can pose its own set of unique challenges.

Courtney Murray served our country as a Specialist in the Army including an 11 month tour in Iraq where she was driving trucks running supplies as well as searching females for bombs at checkpoints.

Courtney is tough but even she admits it was frightening work and the experience gave her a new perspective on life.  “I definitely appreciate things more,” she says.

When she left the Army, the transition to civilian life was difficult.  She was used to a certain predictability and structure.  Life outside of the military held none of the familiar routine.  Plus, she needed to earn a paycheck and get her feet under her financially.

Courtney responded to a job posting and interviewed with Morgan Mason, Recruiter in TERRA’s Kirkland office.

“When I met Courtney, I immediately knew I would be able to place her.  She had a really good attitude and a desire to work,” says Morgan.

Morgan put Courtney to work in a matter of days.  She has been on her current assignment for more than five months.  Her client supervisor regularly praises her work.  Courtney has taken on the additional responsibility of making company announcements during their morning “team clean.” She says she likes the routine nature of the work, likes to keep busy and feels like she’s a part of something like she was in the Army.

“TERRA helped me make that first step into my civilian life.  This is my first real civilian job and I’m excited for my future.”

We thank you for your service to our country, Courtney.  Thank you for allowing us to play a role in your success story.
