Machine Learning Learns Candidates

Machine learning can adapt as it gathers information, making it more useful than a standard algorithm in predicting human behavior patterns. For instance, machine-learning software can be used to analyze the chat logs of potential customer service representatives for language patterns that indicate a candidate has better than average empathy or efficiency.

Similar programs use machine learning to evaluate personal attributes like curiosity or polish in a candidate’s application, then compare those results to the results of similar analyses on employees’ work. Over time, the system learns to recommend candidates whose applications indicate a better fit with the current staff.

Using Social Media for Good (and Bad)

AI “bots” are commonplace on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and some even convincingly look like human commenters. But AI can be used in human resources as well, to scan candidates’ social media accounts for troubling content.

For instance, natural-language processing has been used since 2015 to run automated web searches for candidates. The system scans news articles, blogs and social media accounts for keywords related to topics HR managers want to avoid in their staff, like bigotry, violence or illegal drug use. The results can help HR managers make more informed decisions without spending hours of their own work time on social media.
