My New Job is the Perfect Fit – And Not the Job I Originally Applied For

Though originally from Washington State, Joelene Jewett decided to venture away in search of new opportunities, and wound up settling down in Montana.
While there, she established a successful career working as an office manager for a mechanic shop.
Fun fact about Joelene: she absolutely loves cars. This position suited her perfectly.
“Cars have always been fascinating to me. I even built my own!” she exclaimed.
Unfortunately, Joelene had to leave this career behind when her dad’s health began to fail. She returned to the Seattle area to be by his side while he underwent a liver transplant.
Sadly, her father ended up passing away. And Joelene decided to remain in Washington.
For a year, she worked in the automotive sales industry. Because of her love of cars, this seemed like a great next step and the perfect fit for her.
“I thought this job would allow me to work and play at the same time,” Joelene shared.
The job wound up not being what she expected and, ultimately, a poor fit.
“I love sales, but I no longer wanted to have anything to do with car sales,” she said. “I wanted a job with integrity.”
Joelene searched online for a new job every day for one month. Then, she saw a job opening for an office admin on the TERRA Staffing Group website.
She had some hesitation at working with a staffing company.
“I didn’t want to be stuck in a position where the recruiter was earning most of the money. Or stuck in a contract role being moved around to multiple locations,” Joelene stated.
She added, “I’d heard horror stories about other people who worked with staffing companies.”
In the end, she decided to take a leap of faith. She contacted the Kirkland office and set up an interview to discuss the position.
Unfortunately, that particular job wound up getting filled earlier that morning.
Joelene didn’t even have time to feel disheartened! Recruiter Mandy Vichas immediately came to her with a new opportunity.
She said, “Mandy said, ‘Check this job out. It still has sales, but it’s different.’”
The more Mandy told her about the job and the company, the more interested Joelene became in the role. And it was tied to the automotive industry!
“I fell in love with their story,” she said. “It seemed like the perfect fit for me. I wanted to start the next day!”
The hiring managers had been struggling to find the right person for the job. Once they met Joelene, they knew she was who they needed and offered her the job!
The story doesn’t end there.
Joelene received a promotion and is now National Sales Manager!
She loves her job.
“I get to build relationships with important customers. They fly me out to trade shows and spoil me. Going to work is exciting.”
Regarding her experience with TERRA, Joelene shared, “I would absolutely recommend TERRA. The job I wanted initially may have no longer been available, but before I left the office, I had a new offer. It felt like multiple people were working to find the perfect fit for me!”
If you are looking for a new job opportunity, Joelene has this advice for you:
“Be honest about your abilities on your resume. And be honest about what you want and don’t want. The more upfront you are with you are with your recruiter, the better they can match you to the right fit.”
That’s great advice, Joelene! Thank you for deciding to trust us with your job search. We wish you continued success and can’t wait to see where your story leads you!
