I Love My New Job – It Allows Me to Leverage My Management Skills

(L-R) Betty Dawson, Recruiter, and Sean Tran

Successful managers don’t always start in management. Many work their way up, learning a little bit of everything and growing their skill set.

Sean Tran is a perfect example.

Sean began his career when he was about 16 years old.

He worked in the shipping department of a bakery, part-time, while he was in high school.

Over the course of the next 15 years, he began building an impressive resume.

He took on roles in production, construction, packaging, and shipping and receiving.

He ultimately earned a promotion, becoming warehouse purchasing manager. At one point, Sean was even managing two warehouses!

Despite his success, Sean was feeling dissatisfied with his career. His company had undergone fairly recent management changes, resulting in a culture shift.

Was this still the right place for him? He wasn’t sure anymore.

It was around this time that Betty Dawson, Tacoma Recruiter, reached out to Sean. She had been doing some research and came across his resume online. One of her clients needed a Production Manager and Betty thought Sean could be a potential fit.

After talking with Sean, she realized that he was actually perfect for the job.

Betty said, “Sean had previous production management experience, was professional and had a great personality. He also seemed incredibly flexible and had excellent leadership skills. I knew my client would love Sean.”

Sean decided that it wouldn’t hurt to interview. After all, he was already thinking about leaving his job.

The interview went exceedingly well. He received a job offer!

Sean enjoys the work he is doing and loves the company he works for.

“It’s different. I have a really good crew and my management team is very supportive. The role is difficult, but I appreciate the challenge. I like that I can help bring structure to the organization and that I can see the results of my work.”

“TERRA is a lot better than other staffing firms,” Sean said, when discussing his experience with TERRA. “They are responsive and communicative. Eighty percent of the employees we need come from TERRA.”

That’s right – as Production Manager, Sean has become a TERRA client! He requests staff for his production teams.

We asked Sean why he thought people might hesitate to work with a staffing firm.

“There’s not enough education for people about staffing agencies. People don’t know what they’re supposed to do. And there’s that thought, ‘If you use a staffing agency, the staffing agency is going to take money out of my pay.’ But it’s not like that. My salary is my salary. They will not take money away from me.”

Would he recommend TERRA? Sean not only would, he has!

“I’ve actually referred many people to TERRA. I recommended TERRA to supervisors I worked with in the past. I even recommended my doctor’s receptionist – and TERRA found her a new job!”

We are so glad that you are happy in your role, Sean. Thank you for letting us play a part in your story – and for the referrals! We wish you continued success in your career!
