TERRA Believed in Me – I Have a Stable Job and I’ve Already Been Promoted!

Kim Stewart moved to Portland from Boston about six months ago.

To make some money, he began doing part-time landscaping jobs, but he needed something that offered more hours and more stability.

His goal was to find a job that would allow him to use his three years of forklift experience.

An online job search for forklift opportunities in Portland led him to TERRA’s NE Portland office, where he met with Staffing Specialist, Jennifer Bailey.

Kim told her about his goals and Jen was quickly impressed by his easygoing and agreeable personality, his work experience, and his flexibility.

Knowing what he was looking for, and knowing that there wasn’t a forklift role that was a fit for him at the time, Jen presented him with an alternative opportunity that would still allow him to achieve his goals.

Her coworker, Staffing Specialist, Annette Johnson, had a client that was looking for people to work on a production line.  It was a temporary role, but there was opportunity for growth, especially for someone who proved to be a hardworking and reliable employee.

Kim decided to give the job a try. He said, “I wanted to work in order to provide for my children and I came here to earn my way.”

And, sure enough, Kim proved to be an incredible employee.

Jennifer shared, “Kim was incredibly reliable. The client loved that he always showed up to work and was on time every day!”

About three months into the role, the client decided to offer Kim full-time, regular employment!

But wait, the story gets better.

“A week after I was hired on,” Kim began, “I was transferred to the warehouse department, where I am now a forklift operator.”

That’s right! Kim was promoted to the very role he had his eye on from the beginning.

Regarding his experience with TERRA, he said, “I am very happy. I’ve been here six months and I have a stable job. Jennifer and Annette have been a real help.””

He added, “I just needed someone to believe in me. I am thankful TERRA gave me an opportunity.”

And Kim tries to help others looking for employment opportunities by referring them to TERRA. “I pass around TERRA’s number if someone is serious about working, and willing to work hard.”
