TERRA Helped Me Find My First Job in My Desired Field

Andres Cruz had been working jobs in retail and food service for four years. The work was OK, but he knew customer service wasn’t his desired field.

“From a young age, I’d always been interested in technology,” Andres shared.

And though he was building computers and working with technology as a hobby, it wasn’t helping him build a career in IT.

One day he decided to do something about it.

Andres said, “I knew I needed certifications for my career goals. So, I left my job to start studying.”

Soon enough, he received his CompTIA A+ certification (an entry-level certification for PC service technicians) and started looking for entry-level IT opportunities.

His job search led him to TERRA Staffing Group’s Vancouver office.

“I’d never worked with a staffing agency before, so I didn’t exactly know what to expect,” Andres stated.

Ultimately, he decided to give TERRA a chance and went in for an interview.

“I was open to short-term work, but I was really hoping to find a long-term position,” he said.

He met with Recruiter Aubrey Pesicka who, luckily, had the perfect role for him – a configuration technician role with an IT company.

“Andres was incredibly well-spoken and driven. He was clear on his career goals and I knew he would do well with the company,” Aubrey said, recalling her first meeting with him.

She arranged an interview between Andres and her client.

“I felt pretty confident going into the interview,” Andres explained. “Aubrey really helped me prepare and I knew I filled the criteria for the role.”

His interview went great. So great, in fact, that he was offered a position the very next day!

“I was so excited to get the role. I felt fantastic!” he exclaimed.

The following week, he started working in his dream field. And he’s loving more than just the work he’s doing.

“I now have a consistent schedule, which I wasn’t getting in retail, and the people I work with are great,” he said. “There are so many things to learn. It feels great to take what I’m learning and contribute it back to the company.”

Andres is making fans of his supervisors as well. Aubrey shared, “He’s a hard worker and a team player. He’s really been instrumental to the success of the team.”
