We are in the midst of a very unique moment in time, where the amount of employment opportunities outnumbers job seekers.

So far this year, manufacturing jobs have grown by 456,000 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics—32,000 of which were added just last month.

There has never been a better time to look for work, especially within manufacturing. And it’s not just because manufacturing jobs are in high demand.

They offer a ton of flexibility.

Many businesses have a variety of shifts.

Manufacturing jobs offer Day, Swing and Night schedules. So you can choose the hours that work best for your needs. Swing and Night schedules can be ideal for students, parents with childcare needs, or anyone that is unable to work traditional daytime hours. Because many manufacturing employers operate around the clock, they lend themselves to that kind of flexibility. And it’s always possible that you can change your shift.

Some jobs have compressed, short work weeks.

If you want to earn full-time pay and only work 4, or even 3 days per week, a manufacturing job can meet this need. Many offer compressed schedules that are typically 10-12 hour shifts, which can add up to 40 hours in less than 5 days. The added bonus of a compressed schedule—beyond having more free time available— is that you can enjoy the same perks and benefits as someone working 5 days per week.

Part-time, Same-day and Contract work is available.

That’s a big way manufacturing jobs can provide flexibility. Those kinds of roles are perfect for someone interested in supplementing their income or anyone uninterested in long-term, full-time work. The added flexibility is that many temporary or part-time manufacturing jobs don’t require work experience, making them an easy entry into the workforce. Some employers also offer same-day jobs, so you can work when you want.
