Are you eager to start your manufacturing career but worried about your interview?
We get it. Interviews can be stressful, and nerves can sometimes get the best of you.
But if you know how to prepare, you’ll find that you have nothing to worry about.
We’ve put together some tips to help you out.
Here’s how to nail your manufacturing interview:
1. Dress to impress.
You may not normally wear business casual attire while you work, but this is a job interview. You want to make a good first impression. We’re not saying you need to wear a suit. A nice pair of jeans or slacks and button-down shirt or blouse is all you need. Showing that little bit of extra effort helps you stand out. It also demonstrates that you are professional and serious about the job.
2. Have a well-crafted resume.
Make sure you bring a printed copy of your resume and that you have a list of professional references ready. Employers always appreciate a well-crafted resume. Don’t worry. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Just highlight your longevity and manufacturing or production skill set. Unsure of how to write a manufacturing resume? Here’s how to put together a manufacturing resume that gets noticed.
3. Know your work history and skill set.
Be ready to talk about your manufacturing work history in detail. Know your dates of previous employment and what your job duties were in each position. Be prepared to name specific machinery you’ve operated, or any licenses or certifications you earned. Show examples of how and when you’ve put those skills to use. This will help the hiring manager see you as a qualified and capable employee.
4. Research the company.
Do your homework. Find out what the company manufactures. Learn about the company history. It showcases both your initiative and your interest in the job. But, more importantly, find ways to connect what the business does to your qualifications. This can go a long way in helping you land the job.
Your manufacturing interview doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
Knowing how to prepare and being able to showcase your skills and interest, can help alleviate some of the stress.
